Box office success over recent years has ushered in a new era for Marvel Entertainment. Originally focussing on comic books of your favourite superheroes, Marvel has gone on to release critically acclaimed film adaptations for superheroes such as The X-Men, Spiderman, Blade, Incredible Hulk, The Fantastic Four and more recently, Iron Man.

In this weeks special we count down the top 5 Marvel adaptations to hit the big screen.

Blade #5 Blade (1998)
One of the lesser known comics, Blade starred Wesley Snipes as the half-vampire "daywalker" who protected the mortal race by slaying his own. Blade provides plenty of high speed action and effects with a touch of blood. The extreme violence is successfully broken up with a variety of one-liners and other humour resulting in a great comination of action, science fiction and horror. Also starring Kris Kristofferson and Stephen Dorff as the enemy.

Hulk #4 Hulk (2003)
Arguably one of the most popular characters in the Marvel franchise, Hulk (Eric Bana) is the result of an expiremental accident which curses him with the tendency to turn into a powerful giant green brute when angry. Featuring some amazing effects which bring the green beast to life, Hulk is sure to have to glued to your seats.

Iron Man #3 Iron Man (2008)
Recently released to theatres, Iron Man is the story of Tony Stark, a billionaire weapons developer who is forced to free himself from the grasp of terrorists. In doing so he creates a special suit of armor which he uses to escape. Back home, Tony Stark uses his resources to improve the armour and become the advanced Iron Man. The film features a great cast including Robert Downey Jr as the lead with supporting roles from Gwyneth Paltrow and Jeff Bridges.

X2 #2 X-Men 2 (2003)
Whilst the first one was good, X-Men 2 was truly super. Bigger in scope, larger in list of characters and huge on thrills, X-Men 2 see's the original line up searching for a mutant assassin who has made an attempt on the presidents life. Action packed with amazing fight sequences, X-Men 2 also had it's share of emotional moments too, making it popular with contemporary movie critics. Starring an ensemble cast including Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart.

Spider Man 2 #1 Spider-Man 2 (2004)
Spider-Man 2 outperformed its predecessor in every possible way. Tobey Maguire was once again magnificent as Spidey, while his relationship with Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst) gave this movie a lot of heart. Spider-Man 2 see's Peter Parker taking on Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molino) whilst struggling to maintain his crumbling personal life. The combination of a great storyline and breathtaking effects are what really sets Spider-Man 2 apart from other Marvel film adaptations.
